Bestselling Seattle author Claire Dederer (Poser: My Life in Twenty-Three Yoga Poses) was a happily married mother of two, ages 9 and 12, when she suddenly found herself in the midst of an erotic reawakening. While that may sound exciting in theory, the reality was not so pleasant. Dederer’s new memoir, Love and Trouble: A Mid-Life Reckoning shifts between her experience as a middle-aged mom in the grip of unexpected sexual sensitivity and longing and her teen years (the last time she had experience such feelings). In conversation with KEXP’s Cheryl Waters, Dederer shares poignant stories from both sides of this hormonal teeter-totter, from the boyfriend she dumped at fourteen the moment she learned how to give herself an orgasm to raising a teenage daughter herself. Her revealing stories uncover something universal about the experience of being a woman, a daughter, a wife.
