Chase Jarvis and Brandon Stanton are two creative powerhouses. They’ve been through the creative trenches and produced amazing work, and both consider establishing a creative practice to be as valuable and urgent as exercise or nutrition. They met onstage at Town Hall for a conversation highlighting Chase’s new book Creative Calling—centered on the notion that creativity isn’t a skill, it’s a habit available to everyone. From beginners to lifelong creators, entrepreneurs to executives, astronauts to zookeepers, Jarvis and Stanton explored strategies for everyone to focus the creative forces inside and unleash them to transform our lives and deliver vitality to everything we do.

Jarvis and Stanton unpacked and reframed the creative process with the “IDEA” system: Imagine your big dream, whatever you want to create—or become—in this world; Design a daily practice that supports that dream—and a life of expression and transformation; Execute on your ambitious plans and make your vision real; and Amplify your impact through a supportive community you’ll learn to grow and nurture. Harness your creativity and learn how small, daily actions can help us to supercharge our innate creativity and rediscover our personal power in life.

Chase Jarvis is well known as a photographer, director, and fine artist. He is the co-founder of CreativeLive, the world’s largest live streaming creative education website, as well as the host of the weekly video series Chase Jarvis Raw and the Chase Jarvis Live podcast.

Brandon Stanton is an author, photographer, and blogger. He is the creator of the photoblog and book Humans of New York, featuring hundreds of portraits and excerpts of the lives of people living in New York City. He is one of Time magazine’s “30 Under 30 People Changing The World.”

Presented by Town Hall Seattle. Recorded live in The Great Hall at Town Hall Seattle on September 23, 2019.
